How Do I commission my own neon light?

01 – Brief us

If you know exactly what you want then great! Just send us the specification and we’ll get right back to you. Only got a vague idea about what neon light you’d like? No problem, just let us know the kind of things you like!

02 – The design

We’ll ask some questions and propose some design ideas for your neon light. The design will include the font and colour of any lettering and the shape and detail of the mount.

03 – The details

We’ll discuss some of the finer details with you to make sure we get your neon exactly as you want it. The Glass – We’ll suggest colours and sizes. The Mount – If you want to see a stunning brick wall behind the neon then we’ll mount the glass on clear acrylic. If you’d like to protect the glass as you’ll be moving it from one event to another then we’ll protect it in an exhibition-grade Perspex box. If you want the mount to be more of a feature then we’ll mount the neon on a powdercoated steel mount. Anything else?! We can mount neon glass on many other materials such as timber or even a blackboard!

04 – Confirmation

Once you’re happy with the design and the price, then we’ll start making your neon.

05 – Delivery

We’ll arrange a suitable time for delivery and normally deliver the neon lights ourselves to make sure they’re taken good care of.

06 – Installation

A lot of neon doesn’t need specialist installation as it’s ready to hang up and plug straight in. On the occasions where neon is being mounted directly to one of your surfaces then we can still help. We don’t install neon ourselves but work with specialist fitters who will be able to work with you to get it fitted.

What’s possible in neon?

We’ve produce neon lights for a wide range of uses, varying from hotels, restaurants and nightclubs to art galleries, music festivals and for famous artists and celebrities.

What colours can I get?

Neon lights are available in a broad range of colours and the colour of neon in a photo may not necessarily accurately represent the colour of the neon light in ‘real life’. Contact us for more information about the colours available.

How long does a neon light last?

Neon lights can last for decades but as with any other type of light, it depends how much it’s used.

Are neon lights dimmable?

Yes, but the brightness is set directly with the transformer when the neon is first installed so once set it then remains at that level of brightness. We have preferred suppliers with years of experience who will set it to your perfect level when they install it.

How does a neon light work?

A neon light is a general term as neon lights actually use either neon or argon gas. A glass tube is filled with either of these gases and electrical connections are fitted at either end. A high voltage is then applied which ionizes the gas, causing it to emit coloured light due to fluorescence. Different colours are created through different methods: (i) neon appears red-orange and argon appears pale blue and (ii) clear glass tubes are coated on the inside with a fluorescent powder that emits different colours.

Is neon fragile?

Neon lights are made using glass tubing so yes, they’re relatively fragile. If they’re likely to hang in a vulnerable place, they can be mounted in perspex to protect them from breakage.

Can neon be repaired?

Yes. Damaged glass can either be repaired or sections replaced. Each break is different so give us a call and we’ll help you out.
