LED Neon Ultra Sign

Neon Ultra® – The Ultimate LED Neon Sign

Neon Ultra® is a premium signage solution that employs solid opal recyclable acrylic and high-efficientcy LEDs to give the effect of LED neon signage. It’s often specified by name as the led neon sign of choice by fit-out contractors, designers and architects, and being so robust, is often used for touring productions including theatre and music.

How do I commission my own Neon Ultra® Sign?

Share your design ideas

All of our Neon Ultra® signs are made to order, meaning (virtually) anything is possible. We often receive fully detailed specifications for these led neon signs, including illumination colour and strokewidth, but we can also work from just an initial idea. Either was is really simple, just call us and we can easily guide you with your design choices.

We’ll design & cost your neon sign

If you’ve sent us a detailed spec and drawing then we can cost it straight away and let you know the price. If you’ve just sent us initial ideas then we’ll send those designs to you first. Once you’re happy with the design then we’ll work out the price for you.

Devil in the detail

The last thing we want to happen is for your led neon signage to arrive to site and there be a snag on installation. We’ll therefore go through some of the finer details of the specification, which aren’t as exciting but are equally important. That will include points such as cable lengths, the position from which the cable exits your Neon Ultra®, the colour of the cable and any fixing points required.

Neon sign delivery and installation

All of our Neon Ultra LED signs are made here in the UK meaning we can turn things around pretty quickly. Once your signage is produced we’ll ship it to your chosen address along with all of the elements required to illuminate such as transformers and dimmers where specified.

Neon Ultra® – The Detail

General construction of Neon Ultra®

All of our Neon Ultra® signage is manufactured from solid opal acrylic. Your design is laser-cut from a sheet and a channel is cut into the rear of the acrylic into which high-efficiency LEDs are inserted. With each LED module being located so close to each other, no spotting occurs and the led neon signage gives an overall effect of constant illumination. Vinyl tape is then located onto the inner and outer edges of the acrylic to ensure that the LED modules can’t be seen.

Strokewidths and bevel-face v. flat-face

The minimum strokewidth of any shape or lettering is 12mm. The maximum strokewidth is 20mm as any larger than that leads to non-even illumination. If you’d like the strokewidth to vary (ie ‘thick’s and thins’) then the face needs to be flat. If you design consists of a constant strokewidth through the design then we can add a bevel to the face which mimics the curve of real neon glass but as an LED neon sign.

Type of illumination & vinyl

Neon Ultra® is a really flexible type of led neon signage as it offers multiple effects for illumination. Specifically, they are;

Face illumination – The sides are covered in vinyl (your choice of colour) and the rear is blocked out.

Face and partial edge illumination – As per face illumination, but the vinyl only covers part of the side, leaving the other part illuminated.

Face, partial edge & halo illumination – As per face and partial edge but with light being thrown back too in order to achieve a halo effect.

Regarding vinyl edging, this is a key finishing detail of your led neon sign. The most common choice is white, the reason being that RGBW is the most common illumination so the edging reflects whatever colour the LEDs are set to. We can also colour-match brand colours with the edging and it’s specifically made-to-order.

Led Neon Ultra® signage – extras

Achieving your illuminated design as a sign is just the start of what we can achieve. Additional options include;

RGBW LEDs – If we place RGBW (Red, Green, Blue, White) LEDs into your design then it will enable us to control the colour across the full light spectrum.

Colour controller – We offer controllers for the light that include wireless LED controllers to manage the colour and brightness as well as RGB input controllers whereby you input the R, G, and B settings to achieve a specific brand colour (eg 244, 0, 0) for Cola-Cola red.

DMX – We can offer pre-programmed DMX controllers as well as DMX encoders so that you can fully control and animate your signage. We often supply this to the Entertainment industry for Music and Theatre productions. You don’t need to be an expert in this at all – all you need to tell us is what you want to achieve and we’ll do the rest.

Fixing & mounting options

We can pre-mount the Neon Ultra® to a substrate as part of a bigger signage product such as a steel tray or polycarbonate backing. We can also mount it inside built-up trough letters to replicate old neon letter signs. Alternatively, we can fix locators to the back of each section of Neon Ultra® so that it can be mounted directly to the wall at it’s final location. We use brass/nickel locators, stainless steel screws, neon tube supports (if mimicking real glass neon signage as closely as possible) and rivnuts.

Wiring & cabling

If appropriate we’ll discuss wires and cables with you. It may be that you want wiring to be visible, as it often was with real neon, or perhaps you want it to be discrete as possible. We’ll also think through where cables exit your sign, what colour the cables will be and how long they need to be for your particular project.

FAQ’s

What can led neon signs be used for?

Neon led signs are perfectly suited to commercial use where there’s a risk of customer coming into contact with the fake neon or the faux neon is being frequently moved.

What is your Neon Ultra neon sign made from?

Neon Ultra is produced from acrylic and LEDs.

Can I use a DMX controller with your custom neon signs?

Yes! We can either supply the Neon Ultra with a DMX decoder so that you run it from your own lighting desk or we can supply the led neon with a pre-programmed DMX controller too – you just need to let us know how you want it animating!

Do I need a fireman’s switch for led Neon?

No! It just needs a standard 240V power supply and the led neon signs are supplied with a low voltage transformer so a fireman’s switch isn’t needed.

Are led Neon signs dimmable?

Yes. The fake neon light source is LEDs and we can supply a dimmer.

Does Neon Ultra contain glass?

No. Acrylic replaces the glass of traditional neon.
